John Herrock, director of the Asbestos and Mold Analysis Lab in the ULM College of Pharmacy, received $31,396 to develop training and educational materials for the OSHA website, .

The grant, titled "Occupational Hearing Loss and Noise Exposure," will cover strategies that can be implemented by employees and employers to prevent occupational noise-induced hearing loss. Herrock’s materials on osha.gov will include, according to the grant, “a course matrix, PowerPoint presentations, instructor/student manuals, handouts, sign-in sheets, pre and post-tests and evaluations.”

OSPR Grants/Projects Developer Meghan Risinger said, “Mr. Herrock did an exceptional job on this application. This is another great opportunity for ULM faculty to make an impact in our region and across the country. His work will be on the OSHA website, giving ULM national exposure.”

"A grant from OSHA typically means additional funds from OSHA.  This is a beginning for ˶ influence policy across the U.S.,” said OSPR Director John W. Sutherlin, Ph.D.

The Susan Harwood Training Grant Program is to help small businesses and other groups protect the health and safety of their employees by making high-quality safety and health training and training materials available at no cost.
